Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve joint strength and to prevent fluctuation in joining of different materials by embedding and dispersing lumped active materials into at least one front layer of both joint surfaces of a brazing filler metal and joining the different materials under heating in a method for joining said materials. CONSTITUTION:Graphite 2 and oxygen-free copper 3, etc., are used as joining bodies 1 and eutectic Ag-Cu 5, etc., are used as the brazing filler metal 4. Lumped titanium (or zirconium, hafnium or thallium) 6 is embedded in the front layer part of the brazing filler metal 4 opposite to the graphite 2 side and is kept disposed in the dispersed state. The brazing filler metal 4 melts and exhibits sufficient wettability on the joining body 3 side if the joining bodies 2, 3 are heated in a vacuum furnace while the brazing filler metal 4 is kept interposed between said bodies. The titanium 6 diffuses on the joining body 2 side and a reaction layer 7 is formed, by which the wettability of the brazing filler metal 4 the joint strength are improved. The joint strength is, therefore, improved and the fluctuation thereof is improved.
