Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain laser light having a great power with a comparatively small device by a method wherein a laser medium has approximately polygonal prism shape, a totally reflecting face is provided at least on a part of the side of the laser medium to reflect totally the light which runs along the side face in the laser medium. CONSTITUTION:A solid laser device is composed of a polygonal prismatic laser medium 31, a reflecting mirror 33 forming a resonance optical path therewith, a half mirror 34 and excitation light irradiating means 37, 38 which excite the laser medium 31 for laser oscillation. When an excitation light is emitted onto the laser medium 31 with the excitation light emitting means 37, 38, resonance is generated along the resonance optical path 35 to satisfy resonance conditions to obtain laser light 36. In this case, the length of the resonance optical path is at least about 3 times the diameter of the laser medium 31, and total reflection faces 32f...32j are employed in the device to secure a certain wide area for reflection of the beam in the laser medium 31, accordingly, a great power laser light may be obtained easily with comparatively a small device.
