PURPOSE:To prevent the clogging of ion flow openings to obtain a high-quality image, by a method wherein, while an pressurized air is led from a sealed chamber into a spacer discretely having openings, which lead the air out of a pressurized area, an ion flow is controlled by a recording signal applied to an ion flow recording head, whereby an electrostatic latent image is recorded on a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:An in flow generated from a corona wire 11 disposed in a sealed chamber 13 is controlled by a recording signal applied to recording signal applying electrodes 2 of an ion flow recording head 4 when passing through ion flow openings 3. The ion flow passing through the openings reaches to a recording paper, and an electrostatic latent image is formed thereon. At this time, simultaneously, a pressurized air is led into the sealed chamber 13 from a pressurized air source 15. This pressurized air passes through the ion flow openings 3 and further through opening parts 6 formed by a spacer 5 to be emitted out of a pressurized area W between the recording paper and a recording head. In this manner, the dust, dirt, etc. carried from the recording paper 7 can be removed, which ensures the prevention of the clogging of the ion flow openings.
