Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve dispersion and uniformity of noble metal as catalyst, by bringing silica carriers into contact with silane compounds having amino group to form a complex of ions of noble metal and amino groups, effecting thereafter gas-phase reduction on said complex at specific temperatures to form a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:When silica carriers are brought into contact with silane compounds having amino groups such as 3-aminopropyl trialkoxy silane etc. in pure water or solvents such as toluene etc., silanol groups of silica react with silane compounds with amino group, causing the silica carriers to be modified. By bringing then said modified silica carriers into contact with an aqueous solution of salts of noble metal, ions of the noble metal are ion-exchanged to form a complex with the amino group and are immobilized on the silica carriers. Consequently, dispersion of the noble metal is improved and most of the ions of the noble metal are fixed, leading to decreased loss of the noble metal.
