Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the effective purification of NOX to be attained by providing an oxidation device, in which oxygen in exhaust gas is used for combustion and is consumed, and a catalyst, equipped with at least a purifying function of NOX, to be arranged in the downstream side of this oxidation device. CONSTITUTION:A Diesel engine 1 provides in its exhaust passage 2 a particulate filter 3 and a three-way catalyst 4 to be successively arranged from the upstream side, and the filter 3 provides an injection device 5 which injects an oxidation catalytic solution toward this filter 3. An oxidation device 8, which uses oxygen in exhaust gas for combustion to be consumed, is constituted of these filter 3 and injection device 5. The injection device 5 is constituted of a tank 9 storing the oxidation catalytic solution of water solution compound or the like of platinum group metal dissolved in water, injector 10 injecting this water dissolved solution and a jet flow pump 11, and when an O2 sensor 6 detects the oxygen in the exhaust gas to be placed in an excessive condition, the injection device 5 is controlled so as to inject the oxidation catalytic solution.
