Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable supply of strongly basic crystallized zirconia-based sol, by adjusting pH to >= a specific value. CONSTITUTION:This sol is basic crystallized zirconia-based sol at pH >=9 and is useful as a precision abradant. The sol is obtained by heating an aqueous suspension containing zirconium hydroxide at >=80 deg.C until degree of crystallization of formed zirconia reaches >=80% to give an aqueous suspension containing crystallized zirconia and adding a basic substance to the suspension. A nitrogen- containing basic compound or an alkaline (earth) metallic hydroxide is used as the basic substance added.
