Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate fiber identification and inspection and the automation thereof so that the construction is speeded up and labor is saved by imparting a data recording function to a coated optical fiber and applying data adequately to this memory part. CONSTITUTION:The coated fiber 23 in the optical fiber 21' includes a magnetic material 25 and data recording can be made by the magnetization of said material. The memory sections are formed at nearly equal intervals without interruption over nearly the entire length of the coated fiber 23 and the signals indicting the beginning and end of the sections are applied to both ends of the sections as a method for recording the data. The numbers (line numbers) to discriminate the fibers 22 in the optical cable 21' are previously recorded in all the sections. The respective operations of the work such as inspection and connection are thereby automated and, therefore, the on-site operations to respective stages are simplified and the cost is reduced.
