Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture an Al alloy excellent in strength and ductility, by subjecting an Al-alloy ingot containing many coarse intermetallic compounds with a specific grain size to extrusion and refining the coarse intermetallic compounds. CONSTITUTION:An ingot of Al alloy containing many coarse intermetallic compounds in which average grain size or the maximum grain size is regulated to >=5mu or >=10mu, respectively and also area ratio is regulated to 5-80% is extruded at >=100 extrusion ratio and these coarse intermetallic compounds are refined. Further, as the coarse intermetallic compounds, Al-Ni alloy, Al-Cu- Ti alloy, Al-Mn alloy, etc., are usable. By this method, an Al alloy having many refined intermetallic compounds and excellent in strength and ductility can be obtained.
