Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively use a membrane area to the utmost at the time of removing the useless substances in an aq. soln. by uniformly mixing the separation membrane consisting of a hydrophilic material and the separation membrane consisting of a hydrophobic material to form the title separation membrane. CONSTITUTION:The hydrophilic hollow yarns consisting of the hydrophilic material such as polyether sulfone having <=90 deg. contact angle to water and the hydrophobic hollow yarns consisting of the hydrophobic material such as polypropylene having >=90 deg. contact angle to water are uniformly mixed to form a mixed hollow yarn membrane bundle. A separation membrane module is formed by using the hollow yarn membrane bundle 5. When a liq. is treated with the module the air initially present in the module permeates the hydrophobic membrane, and the aq. soln. permeates the hydrophilic membrane. Consequently, the air is not left on the surface of the hydrophilic membrane, and the membrane area effective for the treatment of the aq. soln. is not reduced.
