Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the ununiformity of temperature distribution in a cell stack by inserting a flange pipe, whose thickness is gradually thinned from the inlet side made of fluorine resin into each cooling gas passage to the specified length and closely fitting the flange of each pipe to the inlet periphery surface of the passage. CONSTITUTION:A flange pipe 5 made of fluorine resin to be inserted into each passage 4 in a cooling plate 1 is formed so that its thickness is gradually thinned from the inlet end toward the outlet side in the range from 1mm to 0.2mm. The flange pipe 5 is inserted into each passage 4 so as to cover the range of 1/3-2/3 of the length of the passage 4. The flange 6 of the pipe 5 is closely fitted to the passage inlet periph ery to prevent the penetration of cooling gas even if a gap is produced between the passage inner wall and the pipe 5. A cell stack whose temperature is raised by cell reaction is cooled with a cooling gas flowing through each passage 4 of a cooling plate 1. Since each passage 4 is insulated with the flange pipe 5, the heat exchange capability from the inlet to the outlet is made almost uniform and excessive cooling in the inlet side is retarded with the flange 6 which acts as an insulator. The tempera ture difference between cooling gas inlet side and outlet side in the cell stack is de creased.
