Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a porous ceramic board useful as a building material having excellent integrity, dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness, by primarily pressurizing a ceramic board in a heating and expanding process and secondarily pressurizing. CONSTITUTION:As pellets of a fomable inorganic raw material such as natural glass are sent from a feed hopper 4 through a belt conveyor 3 and a preliminary roll 5, adjusted to uniform thickness and formed into a porous ceramic board 2, the pellets are introduced to a burning furnace 1. The board is burnt by a burning zone b consisting of a belt 6 such as stainless steel belt and a roll 7 at 700-1,100 deg.C while heating the board at 80 deg.C/min rate of heating in a temperature raising zone. The board is expanded under heating and primarily pressurized in such a way that the board 2 secures dimensional accuracy in the direction of thickness and surface smoothness. Then the board 2 after expanding and softening is sent to an annealing zone c and secondarily pressurized by a feed roll 8 to maintain desired dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness. Then the board is sent to transferred by a transporting roll 9 to give the porous ceramic board 2.
