Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the hardness of a surface protective layer, the wear resistance, and the contacting strength to a base body by providing an Si film on the lower face of a surface amorphous carbon film. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording medium layer 13 to which a compound of Co, Ni, and P is stuck by plating, an Si film 14, a hard amorphous carbon film 15 are successively laminated on a substrate 12 consisting of an Al alloy to form a magnetic disk 11. It is preferable that the film 14 is an Si film in the amorphous state, and this film is formed by the Ar sputtering method or the like. It is preferable that the film 15 contains 20-55 at.%, and this film is formed by the DC glow discharge plasma vapor-phase chemical deposition method of mixed gas of CH4 and H2 or the like.
