EXAMPLE:4'-[ (S)-1-Methylheptyloxy ] biphenyl-4-yl 4-[(S)-2-methylbutanoyloxy] benzoate. USE:Useful as an electrooptical display material, industrially and readily produci ble, colorless itself, having improved chemical stability to light, moisture, heat, etc., especially excellent responsiveness and memory properties, both great spontaneous polarization and helical pitch, extremely practical and useful as optical switching elements for display and capable of readily regulating helical pitch in using as SC* liquid crystal compositions.
