Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a fat as a substitute for lanolin having excellent hue, acid value stability, skin irritation, tackiness, etc., by conducting a glycerolysis reaction or an ester interchange reaction of a hardened castor oil or hydroxystearic acid (ester) in the presence of an alkali catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A glycerolysis reaction or an ester interhange reaction of a hardened castor oil having a hydroxystearic acid content of 50wt.% or more, a saponification value of 200 or less, an iodine value of 40 or less, a hydroxyl value of 100 or more, and an m.p. of 60 deg.C or above, or hydroxystearic acid (ester) having a hydroxystearic acid content of 50wt.% or more and an acid value of 5 or less is conducted in the presence of glycerin in an amt. of 5-30wt.% based on the starting far and an alkali catalyst (e.g., sodium methylate) in an amt. of 0.2-2wt.% based on the starting fat at 90-200 deg.C for 1-5hr. Glycerin and the catalyst are removed at 70-100 deg.C to prepare a fat as a substitute for lanolin having a saponification value of 190 or less, an acetyl value of 100-240, and a melting point of 35-50 deg.C.
