Abstract

PURPOSE:To retrieve a desired track stably at a high speed by adopting the constitution such that a tracking element is not vibrated even when a linear motor is moved at a high speed at the coarse retrieval. CONSTITUTION:In case of giving a desired track address to an address input device 77, an information processing controller 78 uses a signal of a synthesis circuit 61 to read a track number with a light beam of a recording carrier 57 located thereupon and sends a direction signal to a signal generating circuit 75. A state observing device 73 estimates a relative position of the element 56 to a carrying base 71 by using a signal of a circuit 56 to drive the tracking element 56, a signal of a circuit 70 to drive a linear motor 69 and a signal of a counter circuit 74 representing the position of light beam on the carrier 57. The estimation signal is fed to the tracking element 56 to avoid the vibration. The circuit 74 counts number of tracks through which the light beam crosses on the carrier 57, sends a coincidence signal to the device 78 to open a switch 76 thereby stopping the motor 69.
