Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the condition just before a magnetic tape runs short in a take-up reel by arranging a light-emitting part and a light-receiving part in sandwiching the magnetic tape winding part of the take-up reel and making the light of the light-emitting part to be transmitted through the tape winding part of the take-up reel incident on the light-emitting part. CONSTITUTION:A pair of a light-emitting part 6 and a light-receiving part 7 for detecting whether a magnetic tape 1 is wound around a take-up reel 3 or not, and means 14 and 15 to detect that the light outputted from the light- emitting part 6 is made incident on the light-receiving part 7 and to stop the driving of the magnetic tape 1 are provided. The take-up reel 3 is rotated in a clockwise direction, and the tape 1 is wound. When a winding angle goes to approximately 180 deg. or below to the reel 3 after the tape 1 is rewound from a condition in which the tape 1 covers the whole surface of the cylinder part of the reel and shields the light, the light of the light-emitting part 6 reaches the light-receiving part 7, and that the magnetic tape 1 of the take-up reel 3 is just about to run short is detected. Thus, the driving of the reel can be stopped just before the winding of the magnetic tape 1 runs short in the take-up reel 3.
