Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of errors in a detection distance, by a method wherein a cooling water chamber is provided on the circumference of a sensing section of a proximity sensor to cool the sensing section and detection sensitivity is kept almost constant irrelevant to changes in the ambient temperature. CONSTITUTION:A cooling water chamber 2 is formed surrounding the circumference of a sensor section 1 which detects changes in the electrostatic capacity with an access to an object to be detected to generate a detection signal. A feed water pipe 3 and a drain pipe 4 are provided in the cooling water chamber 2 with the tip thereof exposed and covered with a seal resin 5 to seal up. The sensing section 1 is provided with a lead terminal 6 to lead the detection signal out of the seal resin 5. With such an arrangement, a cooling water is injected from the feed water pipe 3 and drained from the drain pipe 4 to always cool the sensing section 1 thereby keeping detection sensitivity of the sensing section 1 almost constant regardless of changes in the ambient temperature.
