Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a uniform metal coating layer in a short period of time by coating a metal powder compsn. having the m.p. lower than the m.p.of a metallic base material onto the surface of said material and press-welding the same to form a metal powder layer, then coating a flux on this layer and subjecting the layer to a rapid heating treatment. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the metallic base material (steel, stainless steel, etc.) is cleaned and the powder compsn. (about <=75mu particle size) essentially consisting of the metal powder having the m.p. lower than the m.p. of said material is uniformly coated thereon. The material and said coating are then press-welded by rolling rolls, etc., to form the metal powder layer. The flux prepd. in a liquid state is uniformly coated on this metal powder layer and is dried. Ammonium chloride, boric acid, silicic acid, etc., are properly used for said flux component. The metal powder layer is then subjected to the rapid heating treatment in a manner as to avoid melting of the base material metal by projecting high-output laser beams, etc., thereto. The arbitrary metal-alloy coated layer is thereby formed in a relatively short period of time.
