Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently multiply a plant of the genus Bupleurum without losing characteristics of a excellent stump, by inducing a shoot primordium from a shoot apex meristem of a plant of the genus Bupleurum and redifferentiating. CONSTITUTION:A shoot apex meristem of a plant of the genus Bupleurum (e.g. Bupleurum falcatum L.) is sterilized with an aqueous solution of ethanol. A shoot primordium is induced from the shoot apex meristem in a medium (e.g. liquid medium obtained by adding 1-5% sucrose to an inorganic synthetic medium) at 20-30 deg.C culture temperature by irradiation with light rays having approximately the same brightness as that of a fluorescent light for 3-8 weeks, redifferentiated and a hereditarily uniformly plant of the genus Bupleurum is multiplied.
