Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent breakage of a retainer without needing an auxiliary tension material harmful to maintenance of lubricity, by a method wherein the retainer is formed such that it is circumferentially divided. CONSTITUTION:The bodies of inner and outer wheels 2 and 3 are respectively formed by ceramics, e.g. silicon nitride. In a retainer 4a, its body is formed by ceramics, e.g. silicon nitride, its surface is covered with a solid lubricant, e.g. molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide, graphite, or the whole of the retainer 4a is formed by a solid lubricant. The retainer 4a is formed as an assembly of four retainer pieces 10a positioned in a plane extending at right angles with the central axis of a bearing. The four retainer pieces 10a are positioned around the central axis of the bearing, all the retainer pieces are collected together to form the annular retainer 4a, namely, the retainer pieces 10a form a shape in which the retainer 4a is circumferentially divided into four sections. Since the retainer is not formed in an integral annular shape, a hoop stress is prevented from generating.
