Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize laser output characteristics, and decrease a power supply voltage at the starting time of discharge, by connecting coils between each pair of metal electrodes and an AC power supply, and setting the inductance of each coil in the manner in which the combined absolute value of the reac tance of each coil and the reactance between each pair of metal electrodes are made almost equal before and after the discharge. CONSTITUTION:Reactance of each coil 11 is set as omegaL. Reactances between each pair of metal electrodes 3, 4 are set as 1/omegaC0 (before discharge) and 1/omegaC (after discharge). Combined reactances of them are X0 (before discharge) and X (after discharge), whose absolute values are set to be almost equal with each other before and after discharge. Before discharge, the reactance between each pair of metal electrode 3, 4 is comparatively large. In this case, since each coil 11 is connected between each pair of metal electrodes 3, 4 and an AC power supply 8, the combined reactance X0 becomes a resistance of a series circuit of the pair of metal electrodes 3, 4 and the coil 11. When discharge is started between the pair of metal electrodes 3, 4 in the above state, a power supply voltage V necessary to make a specific discharge current I flow becomes small.
