Abstract

PURPOSE:To generate vector data, which can reproduce a graphic form of high quality, in a practical processing time by generating a series of codes in the tracing order of boundary image elements of the graphic form and selecting vector points based on continuous states of codes in respective parts of this code string. CONSTITUTION:It is noticed that the Freeman's chain code or a code equivalent to it reflects features, especially, the bending state of the contour of the graphic form, and the code string of a series of these codes is generated in the tracing order of boundary image elements of the graphic form, and vector points C1-C5 are selected from boundary image elements or nearby image elements on the basis of continuous states in respective parts of this code string. With respect to the Freeman's chain code, the right of an objective image element is set to '0' and '1'-'7' are successively set at intervals of 45 deg. counterclockwise, and the direction of the following boundary image element is given as the chain code to each boundary image element when boundary image elements of the graphic form are successively traced in one direction. Thus, vector data which can reproduce the graphic form of high quality is generated in a practical processing time.
