Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a sensor which exhibits a good detection characteristic for organism components and has high sensitivity and preservable stability by using a conductive oxide consisting of SnO2 as an electrode and fixing enzyme by covalent bond via a coupling agent to the surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:The sensor electrode is formed of an insulating base 1, a conductive SnO2 layer 2, a coupling agent layer 3 and oxidation reduction enzyme 4. The enzyme 4 is fixed by treating the surface of the SnO2 with a strong acid to hydroxylate the same and treating the surface with the coupling agent, then chemically bonding the terminal of the coupling agent to the surface. Glucose is used as a substrate and the electrode potential is set at the potential corresponding to the oxidation reduction potential of the enzyme reaction product of the substrate, then the oxidation reduction current is measured under a potentiostatic condition. As a result, the good detection characteristic proportional to the concn. of the glucose is obtd. The sensor which exhibits the good detection characteristic to the organism components and has the high sensitivity and preservable stability is thereby obtd.
