Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the uniform dispersibility of reinforcing fibers and to improve the machinability thereof by using a titania fiber as the reinforcing material of various matrix metals having wide range of melting point. CONSTITUTION:The titania fiber is used to the matrix metals having the melting point in the temp. range of 500-1,700 deg.C to form a fiber reinforced laminated metallic material. As the titania fiber, e.g., that induced by a potassium titanate fiber generated by regulating titanium oxide to the starting material or that induced from the potassium titanate fiber obtd. by directly subjecting titanium ores to a treatment are used. Since the titania fiber has a high melting point, various metals or their alloys having from the low melting point to the high melting point can be used as the matrix metals.
