Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the non-uniformity in an output characteristic by a method wherein either an electromotive force of a solid electrolyte oxygen concentration electromotive force generating element or a pumping current of a solid electrolyte oxygen pumping element is made to be an oxygen concentration signal in a current control circuit, and this signal is shifted to be an voltage output in a level shift circuit in accordance with a voltage level inputted from outside. CONSTITUTION:In a detecting unit 2 wherein an oxygen temperature difference is generated between an external space and spaces 30, 31 surrounded by an oxygen pumping element 6 and an oxygen concentration electromotive force generating element 10 having porous electrodes 4, 5, 8, 9 on the opposite sides of oxygen ion conductive solid electrolytes 3, 7 respectively, a signal given by an electromotive force of the element 10 or a pumping current of the element 6 is made to be an oxygen concentration signal. The element 6 and 10 are fixed with heat-resistant and insulative spacers spacers 15, 16, 17 interposed between them. The space 30 surrounded by the spacers 15, 16 and the elements 6, 10 is in continuity through a hole 11 forming a diffusion resisting body in relation to a measured gas, while the spacer 31 surrounded by the spacers 16, 17, the element 10 and the electrolyte 3 has a gas of a prescribed oxygen concentration sealed therein.
