Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a highly corrosion-resistant chromate film hardly causing the elution of sexivalent Cr and the sticking of fingerprints, by applying an aqueous solution of chromic acid which contains SiO2 and PO4<3-> and in which the mole ratio of trivalent Cr to the total Cr is specified to a galvanized steel sheet in the prescribed Cr coating weight and then subjecting the above sheet to drying by heating without water washing. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of chromic acid in high concentration which contains H3BO3 besides SiO2 and PO4<3-> and in which the mole ratio of trivalent Cr to the total Cr is regulated to 0.40-0.55 is applied to a galvanized steel sheet by 30-120mg/m<2> Cr coating weight. Subsequently, the galvanized steel sheet to which the aqueous solution of chromic acid is applied is subjected, without water washing, to drying by heating to 150-250 deg.C sheet temp. By this method, the galvanized steel sheet on which the chromate film improved in the elution of sexivalent Cr and fingerprint sticking characteristic and practically free from elution even if unaged is formed can be obtained.
