Abstract

PURPOSE:To contrive reduction in equipment cost and operating cost of a deodorizing device, by initially reducing flow rate of cooling air, deodorizing the waste gas with a deodorizing device, then increasing the flow rate and releasing the waste gas through a bypass to the open air. CONSTITUTION:Coffee beans are roasted in a beam roaster 5 and then discharged to a cooling vessel 22. A roasted bean receiving plate 23 in the cooling vessel is then cooled with air passing therethrough thereon downward at about 75Nm<3>/min flow rate for 2min just after starting cooling and about 225Nm<3>/min flow rate for 2min thereafter. The cooling waste gas is passed through a cooling waste gas passage and part of a purifying passage for 2min just after starting the cooling and subjected to dust removal in a dust collector 25, filtered in a filter 15, deodorized in a deodorizing device 20 and released to the open air and then passed through part of the cooling waste gas passage and bypass for 2min thereafter, subjected to dust removal in the dust collector 25 and released to the open air. Thereby the small-sized deodorizing device 20 is sufficiently used. Since the flow rate of the cooling air is high, roasted coffee beans are sufficiently cooled.
