Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable recording and reproduction without lowering sound quality and protect the copyright by providing a device which records and reproduces a ciphered digital signal together with a ciphering device which gives a cipher to a digital signal and also removes it. CONSTITUTION: A digital signal M inputted from a CD player 9 to a 1st DAT device 1 is converted into a ciphered digital signal C1 by the ciphering device 2 by using a key k1 and the ciphered signal is recorded on a 1st tape 3 for sound recording. This is ciphered and reproduced into a signal M by using the key k1 only by the ciphering device 2 of the device 1. Further, the signal M inputted to a 2nd DAT device 5, on the other hand, is ciphered exactly similarly by using a key k2 and recorded on a 2nd tape 7 for sound recording. This tape 7 is different in key from the tape 3 and incompatible. Of course, reproduction by other DAT devices is impossible. The digital signal is recorded and reproduced in the digital signal form, so there is no deterioration in sound quality and the copyright can be protected.
