CONSTITUTION:An optical disk medium 6 is rotated by a motor 8 controlled by a disk rotation control circuit 3 at the time of recording and reproduction. To a variable clock generation circuit 14 in the disk rotation control circuit 3, targeted track address information projected by a light beam is supplied, and a variable rotary clock inversely proportional to the diameter of the disk is generated, and is supplied to the input on one side of a selector circuit 15. To the input on the other side of the selector circuit 15, a fixed rotary clock with a constant frequency is supplied, and either the fixed rotary clock or the variable rotary clock is selected by a mode switching signal. And in a write mode, the rotating speed inversely proportional to the diameter of the disk is set, and in a readout mode, the constant rotating speed is set. In such a way, it is possible to realize the stable pit formation and the fast access at the time of reproduction.
