Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the service life of a gasket longer by installing a compensating plate in the specified thickness interposingly between two substrates formed with a bead each, while setting up each bead of these substrates in symmetrical form to the compensating plate, and constituting a compensating part in a way of superposing a combustion chamber hole side peripheral edge of the compensating plate on another combustion chamber hole side peripheral edge of a turnup substrate. CONSTITUTION:Thickness H of a compensating part 18 is larger than thickness (h), superposing a first substrate 4, a second substrate 6 and a compensating plate 8 all on one another, and that it is formed to compensate a space S on a deck surface to be produced around a combustion chamber 30 when a cylinder head 22 and a cylinder block 24 are clamped by a clamping bolt 28. That is to say, at this compensating part 18, it is formed to be thicker than the thickness (h) as much as a portion of thickness (c) of a compensating peripheral edge 8e of the compensating plate 8. With this constitution, the space S on the deck surface around the combustion chamber 30 is surely compensated, while uniform sealing pressure is made to act on the whole deck surface by the compensating plate 8 with the specified thickness (c). Accordingly, bashes on beads 14, 16 due to explosive power are prevented from occurring so that application life is thus prolonged.
