PURPOSE:To produce the titled steel sheet having superior corrosion resistance by applying an aq. soln. contg. specified amts. of sodium silicofluoride and sodium fluoride basing on the total amt. of hexavalent and tervalent Cr ions including a specified amt. of tervalent Cr ions to a galvanized steel sheet and by drying this steel sheet. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. contg. Cr ions composed of hexavalent and tervalent Cr ions and including tervalent Cr ions in 0.3-about 0.5 ratio to the total amt. of the Cr ions and further contg. one or more of silicofluorides of Na, K, NH3, Mg and Ca by 1X10<-3>-1X10<-1>mol. per 1mol. Cr ins and one or more of fluorides or acidic fluorides of NH3, Na and K by 3X10<-3>-5X10<-1>mol. per 1mol. Cr ions is prepd. The aq. soln. is applied to a galvanized steel sheet and this steel sheet is dried without washing. A chromated steel sheet having superior corrosion resistance is obtd. without requiring troublesome control of the treating soln. even in case of long-time continuous treatment.
