Abstract

PURPOSE:To continuously obtain a polyester outstanding in processability and productivity, by aging antimony trioxide in the mixed slurry of starting row materials at normal temperature followed by adding a trialkyl phosphate-treated solution. CONSTITUTION:A slurry comprising (A) terephthalic acid and (B) ethylene glycol is incorporated with (C) antimony trioxide in the form of glycol solution in such amount as to be <=500ppm per wt. of the final polymer followed by aging at normal temperature for 8-24hr and then raising the temperature to >=250 deg.C in an esterification vessel, the resulting system being incorporated with (D) a trialkyl phosphate of formula (R1-R3 are each methyl etc.) in the form a solution prepared by reflux treatment of said phosphate with ethylene glycol followed by cooling to normal temperature in such amount as to be <=50ppm on a phosphorus element basis, per wt. of the final polymer to produce the oligomer followed by continuous polymerization, thus obtaining the objective polyester.
