NEW MATERIAL:The phthalocyanine compound of formula (M is H, halogen or metal atom. which may be oxidized; R is polyprenyl; m is 1-8; Pc is phthalocyanine). EXAMPLE:4-Prenoxycarbonyl copper phthalocyanine. USE:Various device raw material such as pigment, sensitive material for electrophotography, sensitive material for laser printer, electronic material, dye for optical disk, LB membrane, sensor, etc. It is soluble in solvents. PREPARATION:The compound of formula can be produced by reacting a metal chloride and urea to a specific amount of trimellitic anhydride or a mixture of trimellitic anhydride and phthalic anhydride to synthesize phthalocyanine ring and reacting the acid residue remaining on the side chain with polyprenyl alcohol.
