Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [when R<2> is methyl and R<3> is H, (R<1>)n is 3-phenyl, 4-pentyl, 4-(2-ethylbutyl), 4-butylthio, 4-phenoxy, etc.,; when R<2> is H and R<3> is methyl, (R<1>)n is 3-pentyl or 4-phenetyl]. EXAMPLE:4-[2-(4-Pentyl-beta-methylcinnamoylamino)phenoxy]butanoic acid. USE:5alpha-Reductase inhibitor useful in remedy and prevention for disease such as apopecia, acne or prostatic hypertrophy. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II is subjected to saponification reaction in a solvent such as THF using an alkali (e.g. KOH) water solution at -10-100 deg.C to provide the aimed compound expressed by formula I. The compound expressed by formula II is obtained by reacting a carboxylic acid with an amine according to a weld-known method.
