Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a detecting mechanism which can safely operate remotely by providing an electric field sensor in the cavity of a cable terminating part. CONSTITUTION:A cable terminating part has a detecting section 51 protruding at an insulating layer 2 on a connecting section 7, and a cavity 50. An electric field detector 52 connected through a connector 53 to an optical fiber 9 is inserted into the cavity 50, an insulating material 54 is filled in its air gap to be buried in the layer 2. An optical change of a light detected by the detector 52 is measured by a measuring unit, not shown. Thus, the field sensor has the detector 52 and the fiber 9, and detects the intensity of the electric field by utilizing Pockels effect in which the refractive index of the detector 52 is varied in response to the intensity of the electric field. Further, a high speed measurement and a remote place measurement are performed by extending the fiber 9 to rapidly measure the electric field.
