Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain stable focus control by switching a focus servo system of a sampling system to a continuous focus servo system at the time of accessing and controlling the disk by the sampling system at the time of conventional recording and reproduction. CONSTITUTION:In an optical disk device using an optical disk 11 where a servo control area and a recording/reproducing area are provided separately in advance, focus servo is operated by the control of a CPU 23 and the disk is controlled so that output voltages of photodetectors 12, 13 are equal to each other. Then the CPU 23 changes over a servo changeover switch 22 to the position B to activate the sampling system focus servo. When an access instruction is transferred from a host computer 24 to the CPU 23, the CPU 23 changes over the servo changeover switch 22 to the position A to activate the continuous focus servo. When the access is finished, the CPU 23 activates again the sampling system focus servo.
