Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the accurate detection of a distance to an object of detection in either case when the surface of the object is rough or when it is lustrous, by detecting and selecting levels of reflected lights from two projecting means. CONSTITUTION:A diffused light and parallel spot lights are applied alternately to a distance measuring area from projecting circuits 4 and 5. When there is an object in this area, reflected lights are obtained in photosensing parts 12a and 12b, and 13a and 13b, being adjacent to windows of a shading plate located at equal positions to two projecting means. Outputs of first and second photoelectric conversion means composed of photosensing elements 14 and 15, photosensing circuits 16 and 17 and A/D converters 18 and 19 respectively are given to a microcomputer 20 for signal processing. The projecting circuits 4 and 5 are driven alternately and the total amount of the reflected lights obtained therefrom are detected, while a distance to the object is detected from the ratio between the quantities of received lights thereof.
