Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful in the field of chemical industry of high polymer such as polyester polymer in high yield and high purity without using an organic solvent, by dissolving a crude 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenylsulfone monometallic salt in an aqueous solution of a basic substance and carrying out salting-out. CONSTITUTION:A crude 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenylsulfone product (e.g. synthetic reaction product of 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenylsulfone, material obtained by removing sulfonic acids from the reaction product or 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenylsulfone sold on the market) is dissolved in an aqueous solution of a basic substance (e.g. NaOH or Na2CO3), precipitated by salting-out and separated to give a 4,4'- dihydroxydiphenylsulfone monometallic salt. In the salting-out, an agent (e.g. alkali metal such as Na or K) for salting out is added or an excess amount of the basic substance is added to the solution and an acid such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid to form the agent for salting-out and both these methods are used.
