PURPOSE:To prevent recorded data from being destructed in a case where an optical disk medium with high sensitivity is used, by providing a function to monitor the position of an optical head for the optical disk device and the rotating speed of the optical disk device for that position. CONSTITUTION:A comparator 12 which compares the output of a photoelectric transducer 6 with that of a speed detector 11 and controls the input line of a carriage control circuit 8 corresponding to a compared result is provided. By reading the code of a slit plate representing the position of the optical head 4, the allowable minimum rotating speed of the optical disk medium corresponding to the position of the optical head is compared with the rotating speed of the optical disk at the present time, and when the rotating speed of the optical disk at the present time is less than that of the allowable minimum rotating speed, the movement of a carriage 7 is inhibited. In such a way, it is possible to prevent the recorded data from being destructed accidentally even when the optical disk medium with high sensitivity is used.
