Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a flash-setting agent for cement having short setting time and free from alkali trouble, by neutralizing a (co)polymer containing an unsaturated carboxylic acid with a polyvalent metal compound. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing a (co)polymer of an unsaturated carboxylic acid (e.g. acrylic acid) and, as necessary, a monomer copolymerizable therewith [e.g. methyl (meth)acrylate] is neutralized with a polyvalent metal compound (e.g. MgO) to an extent to convert >=50% of the carboxyl group in the (co)polymer to the polyvalent metal salt. The neutralized product is adjusted to pH5-10 (as a 1wt.% aqueous solution) to obtain the objective flash- setting agent composed of an aqueous solution of the neutralization reaction product having a concentration of 10-50wt.%. 100pts.wt. of cement is added with 0.5-50pts.wt. of the flash-setting agent and a proper amount of water.
