Since the feature point having two-dimensional positional information is a refracted point, eight kinds of masks are prepared as nearby masks, a nearby image coincident with one of the masks is extracted and the center of the extracted image is defined as a feature point. In order to form a partial area around the refracted point, an image around the refracted point is moved in the X-axis direction to obtain a segment image. Then, the segment image is moved in the Y-axis direction to obtain a partial area image. Then AND operation between the partial image area and a teached image 101 is found out and a partial pattern image is formed as a partial template and stored in a dictionary pattern memory.
