Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently remove ethylene and to maintain freshness of vegetables, fruits and flowering plants, by passing a gas in a chamber through an adsorbent packed bed, adsorbing ethylene in the gas, removing, circulating the gas and separately regenerating the packed bed with reduced adsorbing ability with dried air. CONSTITUTION:A gas in a storage chamber 1 charged with vegetables, fruits and flowering plants is fed to an adsorption column 3 packed with an ethylene adsorbent 4 such as active carbon or zeolite in a stationary bed by a blower 2, passed through a filter 5, returned to the storage chamber 1 and the gas in the chamber is treated at 50-5,000h<-1> space velocity. On the other hand, when adsorption ability is reduced, dried air passed through a dehumidifier 6 is reversely sent to the column, the adsorbent is treated with preferably 0.4-2 times as much dried air as the gas in the chamber and regenerated.
