Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R<1>-R<4> are H, halogen or alkyl; X is O, S, sulfonyl, alkylene, alkylidene or fluoroalkylidene; m and n are integers of >=1). EXAMPLE:2,2'-Bis[4-(4-vinylbenzyloxy)phenyl]propane. USE:A monomer which is a light yellow or white solid at ordinary temperature under ordinary pressure, useful for producing optical polymers and capable of providing polymers, having excellent properties as an optical polymer and used as optical disks, etc., by blending the above-mentioned compound as a crosslinking agent with other copolymerizable vinyl based monomers. PREPARATION:A bisphenol compound expressed by formula II is reacted with a vinyl compound expressed by formula III (l is an integer of >=1; Y is halogen) in a solvent, such as N,N-dimethylformamide, preferably in the presence of a base, such as NaH, at -20-+80 deg.C for 5min - 10 days to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
