Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve exhaust gas purifying performance, by a method wherein, when the transient running state of an engine is detected, an upper limit value or less or a lower limit value or more of correction of an air-fuel ratio based on a comparing result between an exhaust gas concentration detecting value and a given reference value is prohibited against limitation. CONSTITUTION:In an engine 1, a throttle body 3 having a throttle valve is situated in an intake air pipe 2, and a three-dimensional catalyst 13 is situated in an exhaust pipe 12. A detecting signal from an O2 sensor 14 located in the exhaust pipe 12 on the upper stream side of the three-dimensional catalyst 13 is inputted to an ECU 5 together with detecting signals from various sensors 4, 7, 9-11 which detect the running state of the engine 1. Meanwhile, from the ECU 5, a control signal to a fuel injection valve 6 is outputted. In this case, when the transient running state of the engine 1 is detected, an upper limit value or less or a lower limit value or more of a correction value of an air-fuel ratio based on a comparing result between an exhaust gas concentration detecting value and a given reference value is prohibited against limitation only during a following given period.
