Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the moving direction and speed of a moving object by a 1-phase signal by connecting a comparator having a blind zone of a prescribed level and series-connected magneto-resistance elements (MR) elements on which a prescribed voltage is impressed.
CONSTITUTION: The MR elements 1, 2 are connected in series between a power supply Vc and a ground point and the non-inverted input terminal of the comparator 3 is connected to the connection point (a) of the elements 1, 2. The inverted input terminal thereof is connected to a reference power supply 4. The comparator 3 makes a comparison operation only when the difference between the two input terminal potentials exceeds the prescribed blind zone. The comparator maintains the previous state while the difference exists in the blind zone. The voltage value Vs of the power supply 4 is equal to the voltage Va at the midpoint (a) of the case in which the elements 1, 2 do not receive the external magnetic field. The resistance values of the elements 1, 2 change when a magnet 7 which is mounted on the rotating body and generates the magnetic field orthogonal with the longitudinal direction of the elements 1, 2 passes near the elements 1, 2. The output signal S0 of the comparator 3 is then made into H or L by the difference between the voltages Va and Vs. The rotating speed of the rotating body is, therefore, detectable from the number of pulses of the S0 and the rotating direction is detectable from the duty ratio.
