Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform high-accuracy, stable tracking by simple constitution by limiting pulses with width corresponding to the phase difference between reflected light detection signals from a recording medium by plural photoelectric converting elements to constant width and generating a tracking error signal. CONSTITUTION:Photodetection parts 1 and 2 detect the light intensity distribution of divided far-field patterns on an optical recording medium photoelectrically and binary detection signals S1 and S2 are outputted through waveform shaping circuits 5 and 6, etc. The signal S1 passed through an inverter 7 and the signal S2 are supplied, a D type FF 9 outputs a pulse D1 with width corresponding to the phase difference of the signal S1 from the signal S2, and a D type FF 10 outputs a pulse D2 with width corresponding to the phase difference of the signal S2 from the signal S1. Then the pulses D1 and D2 are limited to constant width values so that no excessive force is applied to monostable multivibrators 11 and 12. Those pulses M1 and M2 are processed by a differential amplifier 13 to remove offsets, and an LPF 14 generates the tracking error signal, thereby performing the high-accuracy, stable tracking by the simple constitution.
