Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a filing capacity required for storage of a character pattern to be steeply reduced and besides, to achieve shortening of time required for development of the character pattern to a dot, by a method wherein a different code table is used for each kind of the character pattern, and each character pattern classified by the kind is compressed. CONSTITUTION:Though character pattern data are compressed to be coded and are stored in a file, one-dimensional run coding system is used as an example of its compression method, by which a higher compression rate is obtained in comparison with a case where a compressed code is allocated by making a character kind of a same typical line width such as a size of a character, type face, etc. a unit, and one compressed code is allocated to all. A plurality of compressed code tables corresponding to a kind of the character are prepared, and are stored in the character pattern file. Code tables stored in areas 14, 16, 18 are code tables prepared for restoring respective character patterns of different size or type faces, and are respectively used according to the character pattern to be stored in the areas 15, 17, 19.
