Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress lag of actuation of a friction engagement element by changing the control characteristic in supply control of the working oil pressure for the friction engagement element in accordance with the sensed temp. of working oil, or a temp. associate therewith. CONSTITUTION:In a hydraulic control device for an automatic transmission, a control characteristic changing means changes the control characteristic of a hydraulic control means in supply control of the working oil pressure for a friction engagement element such as clutch, brake, etc., in a speed change mechanism in accordance with the temp. of working oil sensed by an oil temp. sensing means, or a temp. associate therewith. Thereby the working oil pressure supplied to the friction engagement element is changed with a control characteristic according to the temp. of working oil, i.e. viscosity, which will eliminate lag in actuation of the friction engagement element at, for ex., a low temp. to lead to obtainment of proper engaging timing etc. Thus occurrence of large speed change shock can be prevented, and durability of the friction engagement element be enhanced.
