Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase shearing force and to increase torque capacity by bending inner and outer plates of a viscous coupling and increasing actual surface area. CONSTITUTION:A tubular housing 3 having closed opposite ends is fixed through a bearing 4 to a shaft 2, then inner and outer plates 6, 8 are splined coupled respectively with the shaft 2 and the housing 3 and oil is encapsulated to constitute a viscous coupling 1. Opposite inner faces 3a, 3b of the housing 3 are projected/recessed triangularly while the inner and outer plates 6, 8 are bent in zigzag. Consequently, actual surface area increases to increase resistance for shearing oil thus increasing torque capacity.
