Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent growth of ice by performing a hot gas bypass operation to guide a part of a refrigerant discharged from a compressor to an outdoor heat exchanger and a reverse cycle operation by the switching of a four-way valve according to the quantity of frost on the outdoor heat exchanger to completely remove frost. CONSTITUTION: When an outdoor heat exchanger 2 is frosted during the heating operation and a control 9 receives a detection signal from a sensor 10, the interval time of the defrosting operation is counted by a timer means in the controller 11. When the counted time of the timer is longer than 40 min., an open/close valve 7 is turned ON to accomplish defrosting while making a heating by a hot gas bypass operation. On the other hand, when the counted time of the timer is shorter than 40 min, a four-way valve 4 is turned OFF to be switched over the position indicated by the dotted line while an outdoor fan 8 is turned OFF and with a breezing operation by a room fan 9 starting, a refrigerant discharged from a compressor 1 is fed back to a compressor 1 via the four-way valve 4, the outdoor heat exchanger 2, a decompression element 5, a room heat exchanger 3 and the four-way valve 4, a reverse cycle operation whereby defrosting is accomplished. The breezing operation by the room fan 7 enhances a defrosting capacity to remove the frost from the outdoor heat exchanger 2 thereby eliminating any growth of ice.
